PLAIN CITY, Weber County — A 5-year-old girl was in critical condition Saturday night after being run over by a backhoe during an Independence Day celebration.
An adult was giving children rides on the backhoe at a home near 3700 West and 2200 South when the accident happened, said Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Lane Findlay.
"The operator thought that all the children were in the bucket, and when they started the backhoe up, it began rolling forward, and there was a girl who had not climbed in the bucket yet," he said.
The child was taken to the hospital by ambulance and later flown to Primary Children's Medical Center. She was listed in critical but stable condition late Saturday.
