SALT LAKE CITY — Interest in Jazz unrestricted free agent shooting guard Kyle Korver is heating up, and it's almost all coming from outside Utah.
Miami has emerged as a possible destination, and ESPN reported Friday that Korver is among sharpshooters on the "radar" of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
San Antonio, New Jersey and New York also have been identified as teams with supposed interest in Korver, the Jazz's backup shooting guard and the NBA's leading 3-point shooter last season.
Utah hasn't ruled out bringing back Korver, but that likelihood remains slim for now.
Jazz starting shooting guard Wesley Matthews, meanwhile, remains on the market.
The Jazz very much want to bring him back, and likely will use part of their mid-level exception money to do so.
Fanhouse.com reported Friday that unidentified "sources said Portland, San Antonio, the (Los Angeles) Lakers and Milwaukee are among teams that have called so far to express interest in Matthews," though "Milwaukee … is likely out of the running after having agreed to a deal to re-sign shooting guard John Salmons."
EVANS UPDATE: The Jazz announced on Thursday that they had signed second-round draft choice Jeremy Evans to a rookie contract, but they amended that on Friday to say Evans had actually signed a standard liability waiver allowing him to play with the team next week at the Orlando Pro Summer League.
A decision on offering Evans a contract will be made sometime after the summer league and before veterans camp opens in the fall.
If the Jazz don't sign Evans before fall camp, he can play overseas and Utah still will control his NBA rights.
CARROLL WITH CELTICS: Utah State product Jaycee Carroll is on the roster of the Boston Celtics for next week's summer league in Orlando.
Carroll, who worked out for the Jazz prior to the 2008 NBA Draft, has played in Italy and Spain since leaving Utah State.
He's also scheduled to play later this month for New York at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
The Jazz are not scheduled to play the Celtics in Florida.
Others scheduled to play in the Orlando league include former BYU big man Trent Plaisted (Philadelphia) and ex-Utah Flash guard Gabe Pruitt (New Jersey).
ALUMNI UPDATE: According to the Philadelphia Daily News, former Jazz forward Donyell Marshall has "left his position as a basketball analyst for Comcast SportsNet" in Philadelphia to become an assistant coach at George Washington.
Marshall will serve as an assistant to Karl Hobbs, a former assistant at UConn, where Marshall played. Marshall, 37, last played in the NBA during the 2008-09 season.
ARROYO FOCUSED: Former Jazz point guard Carlos Arroyo will play next week for his native Puerto Rico in FIBA's Centrobasket tournament in the Dominican Republic.
Arroyo, who played last season for the Miami Heat, is an unrestricted free agent.
"I'm more relaxed than ever and focused on the national team practice," he told fiba.com.
"I'm not really concerned about what will happen (in free agency)," Arroyo added. "I know I will have work again in the NBA. … The organization (Miami) let us know that it's interested in talking to us. … That is the main reason for my peace."
Arroyo also plans to play for Puerto Rico at the upcoming FIBA World Championships in Turkey.
HE SAID IT: Ex-Jazz shooting guard Ronnie Brewer, to the Arkansas News, on Memphis not extending a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent: "I don't get offended by that. If I'm all bitter and mad about that and saying I don't want to be with Memphis and they come back and make an offer, well now my mindset isn't where it needs to be and I can't focus on what I need to do and go forward."
