Here's a rundown of this week's theater openings:
"Dream Child," July 9-17, Children's Theatre, 237 S. State.
Written and directed by Utah native Jana Lynne Cox, this musical drama explores a true story of prejudice, jealousy, love and forgiveness.
The play was the winner of the Very Special Arts National Young Playwright's Competition and was produced at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Set in the sixth grade, the play is the story of twin sisters whose relationship is filled with difficulties as one suffers from disabilities. Cox dedicates the play to her twin sister who passed away in 1991.
Shows are Fridays and Saturdays, 7:30 p.m., with 4:30 p.m. Saturday matinees. Tickets are $10 (801-532-6000 or www.tctheatre.org).
"The Wizard of Oz," Alpine Community Theater, July 9-19, Timberline Middle School, 500 W. Canyon Crest Road, Alpine.
With a cast of 150, beautiful costumes, fun choreography and great special effects, the beloved tale of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion (and of course, a witch or two) comes to life.
The production stars Camille Butler, Brooke Nielsen, Stephen Tobian, Jared Wright, Wade Johnson and Michelle Tobian.
Shows nights vary, 7 p.m., with Saturday matinees available. Tickets are $8-$10 (www.alpinecommunitytheater.org).
"Pirates of Penzance," Center Street Musical Theater, July 9-31, Castle Amphitheater, 1300 E. Center, Provo; and Aug. 3-5, American Fork Amphitheater, 851 E. 700 North, American Fork.
After a brief hiatus, CSMT is back with a touring production of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic. The productions stars Curtis and Jennifer Goodman, Gavin Grooms and David Fairchild.

"Hello, Dolly!" Herriman Arts in the Park, July 9-19, Rosecrest Pavillion or W&M Butterfield Park, 6212 W. 14200 South, Herriman.
The Tony Award-winning classic tale is about the irrepressible Dolly Levi, a matchmaker hired to arrange a marriage for the miserly Mr. Vandergelder.
In doing so, Dolly lines up marriages for three couples, including herself. The show features songs like "It Takes a Woman," "Before the Parade Passes By" and "Hello, Dolly!"
