SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County Animal Services will celebrate Independence Day with $17.76 dog and kitten adoptions and free cat adoptions through July 17. The shelter is at 511 W. 3900 South, Salt Lake City.
Shelters can be packed in July since many animals become frightened by fireworks and run away, said Shawni Larrabee, director.
"The summer months are our busiest time of the year with many animals coming into the shelter," Larrabee said. "We want to bring attention to both shelter adoptions as well as encourage pet owners to take special care to keep their pets safe during the summer holidays."
All adoptions include sterilization, microchip and vaccinations. The free cat adoption program is year round.
