In response to the Sunday (June 27) front-page article, "Fact or fiction? The myths and realities of illegal immigration," I just wanted to thank the four reporters for a job well done.
Immigration (particularly illegal immigration) is such a hotly debated and hugely important issue, with wide-sweeping social and public policy implications. It was so nice to read an article that at least made an honest attempt at objectivity, while sifting through all of the garbage, bias, inaccuracies and even lies that are floating around out there that too many individuals seem to take as fact.
I am fairly confident that in the coming days, this article will be extensively discussed and attacked with great zeal by many in the community, so thank you for having the courage to publish this important article and spur on the public dialogue. I just hope that the ensuing public discourse can be civil and productive, rather than digress into what we too often see as an ideological boxing match between two extreme positions, largely disconnected from reality.
