DELTA — The medical examiner in Las Vegas has determined the brother of slain Millard County Sheriff's deputy Josie Greathouse Fox died of an accidental drug overdose.

The body of Ryan Greathouse, 40, was found April 22 in the bedroom of a Las Vegas apartment. The Clark County Coroner's Office on Wednesday said Greathouse died of an accidental overdose and had cocaine, heroine, ethanol and methadone in his system.

Greathouse's sister, Fox, was gunned down while making a traffic stop of a suspected car burglar in Delta on Jan. 5.

Following a statewide manhunt, Roberto Roman, 37, and Ruben Chavez-Reyes, 36, were arrested in connection with Fox's death. Roman was charged with capital murder. Greathouse reportedly bought drugs from Roman minutes before his confrontation with Fox. Greathouse was expected to be a key witness against Roman in court.

During a recent preliminary hearing in June for Chavez-Reyes, Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Matt Higley testified that Chevez-Reyes was called by Roman after the shooting to drive him to Salt Lake City. Once there, Roman told Chavez-Reyes in their native Spanish that he "broke a cop," which Higley said Chavez-Reyes took to mean he had killed a police officer.

A pretrial conference for Chavez-Reyes was set for Aug. 18. Roman's preliminary hearing was scheduled for August.
