WEST JORDAN — A head-on collision claimed the life of a West Jordan man early Saturday, police said.
Paul Cleverly, 41, was traveling south on 2700 West near 7100 South just after 8 a.m. when he drifted across the lanes, hitting an oncoming sport utility vehicle head-on, West Jordan Police Sgt. Rich Bell said. He said the man was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported from the scene to an area hospital, where he died.
The driver of the SUV suffered only minor injuries, and police are working to determine the cause of the crash. Bell said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident, but noted that there are pending toxicology tests.
Tragedy has struck the family before, said Cleverly's father-in-law, David Partridge. Partridge's daughter and 10-year-old granddaughter, Tracie Williamson and Linzie Williamson, were killed by Peter Perez in a murder-suicide in 2008.
