PROVO — The city is restricting open fires and fireworks in Provo Canyon, South Fork and Rock Canyon. The restrictions also extend to the foothills and wild land areas along the eastern bench of Provo City.
Fire Marshal Lynn Schofield issued the restriction, which takes effect immediately. Until the restriction is lifted, fires will be permitted only in designated fire pits in improved campgrounds and picnic areas.
A map of open fire and fireworks restricted areas can be found at www.provo.org. Violations of the order constitute a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $623.
