UCLA rips Florida in College World Series

OMAHA, Neb. — Despite having been UCLA's season-long No. 2 starter before Saturday night, Trevor Bauer looked every bit a No. 1 when given the ball for the Bruins' College World Series opener.

John Savage played a hunch by going with Bauer over Gerrit Cole, and the UCLA coach looked smart after the game. The sophomore right-hander struck out 11 in strong seven innings and set the UCLA season record, and the Bruins cranked up their offense to beat Florida 11-3 for the program's first win in Omaha.

NBA's Grizzlies extend GM's contract

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace has signed a multiyear contract extension that gives the team continuity among its leadership.

The team announced Sunday that Wallace had agreed to the deal, though neither the Grizzlies nor Wallace would discuss its length or financial terms. The team also signed coach Lionel Hollins to a three-year contract in April.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Japan's Ai Miyazato shot a 7-under 64 Sunday to win the $1.5 million ShopRite LPGA Classic.

The 25-year-old Miyazato is guaranteed to take over the No. 1 spot in Monday's rankings after her fourth victory of the season.

Second-round leader M.J. Hur finished second, two shots behind Miyazato. Fellow South Korean Inbee Park, the 2008 U.S. Women's Open champion, was a further two shots back.

Suzann Pettersen of Norway, South Korea's Hee-Won Han and Katherine Hull of Australia shared fourth place at 11 under, one shot ahead of Paula Creamer, who had a spectacular return in her first tournament since surgery on her left thumb in March.

Kirk's 1st pro win secures PGA Tour card

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Chris Kirk shot a 6-under 64 in the final round to win the Fort Smith Classic on Sunday.

Kirk finished with a 16-under 264 at the 6,783-yard Hardscrabble Country Club course. He made par on each of his final three holes to win his first tournament as a professional and take over the top spot on the Nationwide Tour's money list. He also secured his spot on next year's PGA Tour.
