TCU pounds Florida State in CWS opener

OMAHA, Neb. — College World Series newcomer TCU isn't acting like it plans to go home any time soon.

Undefeated freshman Matt Purke overcame early trouble to limit Florida State to four singles and one unearned run over seven innings Saturday, and the Horned Frogs scored five times in the first inning on their way to an 8-1 victory in the CWS opener.

Edwards beats Villeneuve, wins race

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. — Carl Edwards swooped past Jacques Villeneuve on a restart with nine laps to go, then ran away from the field to win the NASCAR Nationwide series race at Road America on Saturday.

Villeneuve made a wild charge to the lead with 12 laps to go. But another caution bunched up the field, allowing Edwards to make his decisive move.

Hur takes 1-stroke lead at LPGA Classic

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — M.J. Hur is not only in the hunt again, but she also has a chance to spoil Paula Creamer's return to the LPGA Tour.

Hur of South Korea birdied the 18th hole for a 7-under 64 and one-stroke lead over Creamer heading into the final round of the $1.5 million ShopRite LPGA Classic on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Hur had a 36-hole total of 11-under 131 in her quest for her second LPGA victory.

Broadway leads Fort Smith Classic

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Josh Broadway moved to the top of the leaderboard at the Fort Smith Classic on Saturday. He led by one stroke at 11 under.

Dungey wins another motocross event

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Ryan Dungey won his third consecutive 450 Class race at the AMA Pro Motocross event from Budds Creek Motocross Park. In Moto 2, Dungey, a Suzuki rider bounced back with a strong start.
