NEW FRIDAY

8: THE MORMON PROPOSITION — ★½ A heavy-handed, supposed nonfiction feature that makes Michael Moore look "subtle" by comparison. Running time: 78 minutes; R (profanity, slurs, violence, vulgarity, brief drugs, torture)

EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP — ★★★½ A brilliantly untrustworthy documentary that becomes an act of provocation unto itself. Running time: 78 minutes; R (profanity) — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

JONAH HEX — Josh Brolin plays the grizzled Civil War veteran in this Western based on the popular DC Comics character. Running time: 81 minutes; PG-13 (violence)
