VERNAL — An industrial accident on an oil rig has killed an Idaho man, according to the Uintah County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies and ambulance personnel were called early Sunday morning to the True 31 rig site, in the Bookcliffs area of southern Uintah County.
Personnel at the rig told authorities that Alan J. Eichelberger, of Hansen, Idaho, had been struck in the head by a piece of equipment, said Uintah County Sheriff's Chief Deputy John Laursen.
Eichelberger, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene, Laursen said.
The incident is being investigated by the sheriff's department and the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
