Mulch offered as incentive to boost green-waste recycling in Davis

LAYTON — The Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District is offering an incentive — in the form of a free scoop of mulch — as a way to get more people to sign up for curbside green-waste recycling programs.

The Administrative Control Board has approved giving the mulch as an incentive for residents to sign up for a city-sponsored program.

Fruit Heights began a curbside green-waste collection program in August and has about 40 percent of households participating, district officials said.

Centerville has voted to begin a similar program.

The district operates the Davis Landfill and the Davis Energy Recovery Facility, with the latter incinerating municipal solid waste to generate steam that is used to provide heat at Hill Air Force Base.
