PROVO — A Spanish Fork man was arrested Thursday after police say he shook a 1-year-old boy and hit the child's mother with the baby.

According to a police statement, Kelly Giacomazza, 34, went to a woman's home where he knew the mother of his children was staying along with his children. The children's mother said she was staying away from Giacomazza because he had been high on methamphetamines for the last week, the report said.

Giacomazza came to the home and followed one of the homeowner's friends to the door. He then forced his way into the home, despite efforts by those inside the home to keep him out, the affidavit said. Giacomazza was yelling and screaming the entire time, the report said.

When Giacomazza picked up the 1-year-old child, the child's mother worried he was going to take the baby with him and tried to take the child from him, said the report. Giacomazza started shaking the baby and then used the baby to push the child's mother against the wall and started hitting her with the child, as stated in the report.

Another person in the home called police and Giacomazza ran, according to police. Officers found Giacomazza and pulled over his car, which had drug needles in the door panel, said the report.

The baby suffered bruising on his back from the incident, the police affidavit said.

Giacomazza was arrested for investigation of burglary, a second-degree felony, assault, a class A misdimeanor, possession of paraphernalia and child abuse, both class B misdimeanors.
