SALT LAKE CITY — Featuring a Mormon church emeritus general authority and a well-known poet-author as inaugural speakers, the Church History Museum is kicking off a new evening-event theme later this month.
"The Story of My Life" — a new installment of the ongoing "Evenings at the Museum" series on Saturday, June 26 — will focus on the importance of preserving and sharing personal histories.
Speaking will be Emma Lou Thayne and Elder F. Enzio Busche, the latter formerly of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Thayne has published, throughout her life, many stories about or based on her own experiences.
A teenager during World War II whose spiritual search led to his postwar conversion, Busche helped his family-owned printing business become one of the largest and most successful in his native Germany.
The theme coincides with a current museum exhibit, "Mi Vida, Mi Historia: Stories of Faith and Inspiration From Latin American Saints," a collection of oral histories. Translated from Spanish, "Mi vida, mi historia" means "my life, my story."
Thayne will speak at 6:30 p.m., with Elder Busche at 7:45 p.m., both in the museum auditorium at 45 N. West Temple. The lectures are free, but tickets are required for the limited seating. Tickets can be arranged online at lds.org/events or by calling 801-570-0080 or 866-537-8457.
