PROVO — A woman who police say stole an 11-month-old boy's social security number was arrested Thursday.
Monica Zamora Vazquez, 28, was booked into jail for investigation of identity fraud, theft by deception and possession of a forged writing device.
The boy's parents found out about the alleged theft when they applied for government medical assistance to help pay for the 11-month-old's heart problems. Their application was denied, and they lost several thousand dollars in medical help because someone else was using their son's social security number, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.
Police began working with the Social Security Administration and discovered that Vazquez had used the boy's social security number to apply for a job as a sweeper in American Fork, the affidavit states. When police got a copy of the card, it had the 11-month-old's social security number under Vazquez's name, the affidavit states.
Police say Vazquez is in the country illegally.
