BYU's Robbie Fillmore is tied for 33rd place.

Peterson medalist at State Am qualifier

BRIGHAM CITY — Kevin Peterson shot a 2-under par 69 to earn medalist honors in the North Qualifying for the Utah State Amateur at Eagle Mountain Golf Course Wednesday and lead a group of nine qualifiers for next month's tournament.

Chanse Godderidge, Nick Litizzette, and Keaton Woodland each shot 70, while Andrew Downs, Austin French, and Joe Wight shot even-par 71.

Four players shot 72, but C.J. Haws and Toph Peterson survived a playoff with Brad Millard and Curtis Smith for the final two spots.

Nyhus tops at Public Links qualifying

Sue Nyhus won medalist honors as one of four local qualifiers for the USGA Women's Public Links Qualifying at Hill Air Force Base Tuesday.

The 47-year-old former BYU women's golf coach shot a 1-over par 73 to qualify for the tournament in which she finished runner-up in 1999.

Other qualifiers were Kelsey Vines, one of Nyhus' former players, at 75 and Emily Podlesny and Maggie Yuan at 76. They parred the first hole of a sudden death playoff to beat out Sirene Blair and Nyomy Obcemea, who made bogeys.

This year's Public Links will be held at The Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind., June 21-26.
