KXRK ("X-96") has moved into third place in the latest Arbitron Portable People Meter ratings for the month of April.

"X-96" held steady with a 5.0 share, while KUBL (FM-93.3) dropped to fourth with a 4.9 percent share (it lost 0.5 percent).

KSL (FM-102.7/AM-1160) continues to be the No. 1 station in the Salt Lake radio market, a spot it has occupied for more than a year. It logged an 8.8 percent audience share during April, down 0.4 percent since March.

Sister station KSFI ("FM-100") remained second at 7.0 percent.

In fifth place is KRSP (FM-103.5) at 4.8 percent.

These ratings are for ages 12 and up.

Rounding out the top 10 for April are: 6. KODJ (FM-94.1) 4.7; 7. KZHT (FM-97.1) 4.4; 8. KJMY (FM-99.1) 4.3; 9. KUDD (FM-107.9) 4.2; and 10. KSOP (FM-104.3) 4.0.

There's only a 1 percent range between the third- and the 10th-place station, so the market remains very competitive.

The next 10 stations were:

11. KOSY (FM-106.5) 3.8; 12. (tie) KUUU ("U-92"), KBEE (FM-98.7) and KNRS (FM-105.7), 3.3; 15. KBZN (FM-97.9) 3.1; 16. KHTB (FM-94.9) 2.7; 17. (tie) KBER (FM-101.1), KDUT (FM-102.3) and KBYU (FM-89.1), 2.3; 20. KEGA (FM-101.5) 2.0.

More rankings were: 21. KUER (FM-90.1) 1.9; 22. (tie) KJQN (FM-103.1) and KYMV (FM-100.7) 1.8; 24. KENZ (FM-101.9) 1.6; 25. KYLZ (FM-104.7) 1.3; 26. (tie) KDYL (AM-1060) and KZNS (AM-1280) 0.8; 28. (tie) KBMG (FM-106.1) and KALL (AM-700) 0.7; 30. KCPW (FM-88.3/105.3) 0.5.

RADIO HAPPENINGS — Does anyone local do live overnight broadcasts anymore? According to www.utradioguide.com, KSOP (FM-104.7) recently began carrying a syndicated show — instead of having a live personality — midnight-5 a.m. KSOP now airs Blair Gardner's "After Midnite" syndicated program.

KSOP may have been the last live station in those wee hours.

— Sister station KSOP (AM-1370) recently grabbed the nickname "Country Legends" to capitalize on the demise of KKAT (FM-107.5), which switched to Christian programming last month.
