SNOWBIRD EXTENDS SEASON

SNOWBIRD — Officials at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort announced this week that they will extend Utah's longest season into June, thanks to above-average snowfall this spring.

The Little Cottonwood Canyon resort aims to remain open for skiing and riding on weekends through June 20, conditions and weather permitting.

The extension would mark 199 days of skiing and riding for the 2009-10 season, two days short of Snowbird's record 2004-05 season when the resort stayed open for 201 days until July 4.

As of May 20, Snowbird's mid-mountain base stood at 117 inches, with forecasts calling for flurries throughout the weekend.

Snowbird is currently offering skiing from the Tram, Little Cloud and Mineral Basin Express on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Memorial Day for a reduced price of $62, with an expected closing date of June 20. The resort will continue to re-evaluate conditions and the spring schedule on a daily basis, with updates on snowbird.com.

Snowbird has received 588 inches of snowfall this season, exceeding the resort's annual average by 88 inches. For additional information, contact Jared Ishkanian at 801-933-2047 or at jishkanian@snowbird.com.

BASS REWARD OFFERED

HEBER CITY — Biologists have found white bass in the Provo River above Deer Creek Reservoir.

The adult white bass, 12 inches in length, moved from the reservoir and into the river to spawn. Biologists say there's only one way the bass could have ended up in the reservoir — someone with a bucketful of bass put them there.

After the biologists and conservation officers with the Division of Wildlife Resources confirmed the find, they were frustrated and angry. Deer Creek Reservoir currently provides excellent rainbow trout fishing. But dumping bass into the reservoir could change that in years to come.

The wildlife division, the Stonefly Society of the Wasatch and Utah Trout Unlimited are offering a reward of up to $7,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who put the bass in the reservoir.

If you have information, call Utah's Turn-in-a-Poacher hotline at 1-800-662-3337.
