KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Vladimir Guerrero put on a show with a pair of two-run homers. Then he really impressed everyone.
He added an RBI double on a pitch few batters would have been able to handle, putting an amazing capper on the Rangers' 8-7 win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.
"It's unbelievable to watch," teammate Josh Hamilton said. "Everybody is kind of in awe. He hit two home runs and then they throw a ball inside and he hits it a rifle bullet down the line and keeps it fair."
Guerrero, who was limited to 100 games last year after two stints on the disabled list, is hitting .347 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs in 45 games.
"I really didn't have any expectations," Guerrero said through an interpreter. "The key is staying healthy. If I'm healthy I can do some things."
Guerrero is hitting .444 with five home runs and 12 RBIs against the Royals this season. It was his 41st multihomer game and his second this season, both against the Royals. He leads the majors with 29 RBIs in May.
RED SOX 2, RAYS 0: At St. Petersburg, Fla., David Ortiz had a two-run double and Jon Lester allowed one hit in six innings Tuesday night, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 2-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Lester (5-2) remained unbeaten in his last seven starts, striking out nine and only allowing one baserunner past second before turning the game over to the bullpen. Manny Delcarmen, Daniel Bard and Jonathan Papelbon finished the combined one-hitter with three scoreless innings.
INDIANS 7, WHITE SOX 3: At Cleveland, Cleveland rookie Mitch Talbot outpitched former NL Cy Young winner Jake Peavy.
Jason Donald and Shin-Soo Choo homered in the Indians' three-run third inning off Peavy (3-4). The Indians made it 6-0 with a three-run sixth off the right-hander, who won the award in 2007 with San Diego.
ORIOLES 5, ATHLETICS 1: At Baltimore, Ty Wigginton and Adam Jones delivered successive sacrifice flies in the sixth inning, and the Baltimore Orioles got a home run from Nick Markakis in a 5-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.
Jeremy Guthrie (3-4) gave up one run and six hits in six innings for the Orioles, who took a 3-1 lead without benefit of a hit.
Baltimore's first run came on a throwing error, and the run-scoring fly balls in the sixth followed two straight walks and a wild pitch by Tyson Ross (1-3).
