The BYU softball team will travel to Tucson, Ariz., to play the Arizona Wildcats in Sweet 16 action of the NCAA championships in its first trip to the Super Regionals.

The two teams will face off at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium on Friday and Saturday in a best-of-three game series for the right to head to Oklahoma City for the College Softball World Series.

Both teams have identical 46-11 records and both are undefeated in the playoffs with 3-0 records so far this year. Arizona is the No. 10 seed in the tournament and was ranked fourth in the country at the end of the regular season. Freshman Kenzie Fowler, with an ERA of 1.25 and a 33-6 record, will likely be the starter in the circle against the Cougars. The Wildcats boast four players with 16 or more home runs this season and are tough from everywhere on the field.

"Arizona is one of if not the premier program in the country. We're going to have to play even better to beat them. They are stellar in all areas of the game, and though we feel like we can compete with anybody in the country if we play our game, it will be a challenge. If we get an opportunity, we need to capitalize," said BYU coach Gordon Eakin about the opportunity to take on the Wildcats.

The first game will be played at either 3:30 or 4 p.m. MST on Friday, and the second game will pit the two teams against each other at 2:30 p.m. MDT on Saturday with a third game to follow if necessary.
