LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — A Sandy hiker was helped out of Little Cottonwood Canyon and later flown to a hospital in serious but stable condition Wednesday evening.
Officials say the 18-year-old had hiked about a half mile up the Rocky Mouth trail with friends when he was hit on the right side of his body by some sliding rocks while standing on a hillside just above the main trail around 7:20 p.m.
One of the teenager's friends called for help and search and rescue teams helped carry the injured teen down the trail to where a helicopter could fly him to University Hospital, said Sandy Fire Capt. Robert DeKorver.
