SALT LAKE CITY — A South Salt Lake man is charged with negligent after police say he sped through a stop sign and crashed into two vehicles, leading to the death of one of the drivers.
Police say Efrain Torres, 50, was driving a pickup east on Guest Avenue (about 3535 South) and traveling about 60 miles per hour, according to witnesses, on a 25 mph street March 1 when he failed to stop at Main.
The truck crashed into a Ford Escort that was turning left onto Guest Avenue from Main, causing it to hit a Nissan Pathfinder that was traveling north on Main, according to charges filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court.
The driver of Escort, Roy Moorman, 52, was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition and later died.
The woman driving the Pathfinder had only minor injuries.
Torres, who lives just a few blocks from the intersection, told officers he didn't see the stop sign, charges state.
Torres was charged with class A misdemeanor negligent homicide, and failure to stop and speeding, both class C misdemeanors.
