BOUNTIFUL — The Utah High School Lacrosse Championships will be played Saturday at Viewmont High School beginning at 10 a.m.
Competition is set up in two separate divisions featuring boys and girls teams in each division. Division II starts first with Cache Valley vs. Lone Peak in the girls final at 10 a.m. The boys' final follows at 1 p.m. with Spanish Fork squaring off against Timpanogos.
Division I play begins at 4 p.m. with the girls match sending Riverton up against Alta. And the boys final at 7 p.m. pits Brighton vs. Park City.
Park City reached the final by squeezing past a Cinderella Jordan team on Wednesday in the semifinals in an overtime thriller.
Top-seeded Brighton had little trouble dispatching Waterford to get into the championship game. Waterford is the smallest program in the state and was on a surprising run until meeting up with the powerful Bengals. Brighton is led by All-American Jayden Haws, an outstanding attacker.
On the girls' side, Alta hopes to keep an undefeated season intact. The Hawks crushed Park City 17-2 and will meet Riverton, who dominated Olympus 16-6, for the title.
The Utah Lacrosse Association expects a crowd upward of 3,000 spectators to watch the four matches.
