SALT LAKE CITY — An open house is planned Monday to showcase elements of the Wasatch Wilderness and Watershed Protection Act sponsored by Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah.
The congressman will be joined by Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Skyline High School's cafeteria, 3251 E. 3760 South.
The bill, HR5009, seeks to protect more than 26,000 acres of land in Mill Creek and Big and Little Cottonwood canyons. About 15,541 acres would be set aside as wilderness and another 10,480 acres would be designated as "special management" areas.
The open house will include maps that detail the areas to be protected and give area residents a chance to ask questions about the bill.
More information on the measure can be found at saveourcanyons.org.
