CENTERVILLE — A bolt of lightning downed a power line Friday on Main Street in Centerville, leading to a two-hour road closure and a loss of power for more than 1,300 homes and businesses in the area.
According to South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jim Rampton, the lightning struck the power line just before 1 p.m., prompting fire officials to close Main Street from 300 South to Center Street for about an hour and a half. Rampton said he did not believe the felled line caused any damage to property or injuries to individuals.
Rocky Mountain Power spokesman Jeff Hymas said that, initially, the power outage affected more than 1,300 residences and businesses. But just after 2:30 p.m., power had been restored to all but 270 customers.
"We are working to repair the damage and restore power to the remaining customers," Hymas said. "We expect to have power restored to all customers by 6 p.m."
