Ohio sorority accused of trashing museum
OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — A second sorority at an Ohio university has been linked to destructive behavior at its spring formal, including excessive drinking, smoking inside a museum, vomiting and trashing the dance floor and bathrooms.
The Alpha Xi Delta sorority is facing a two-year suspension from Miami University because of the March 26 event at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati.
The sorority is appealing the planned suspension.
Miami University's Pi Beta Phi sorority has already been suspended for one year because of misconduct and damage at a local lakeside lodge.
Man pleads guilty in arms-export case
MIAMI (AP) — A Taiwanese businessman has pleaded guilty in Miami to federal charges of conspiring to export items to Iran that can be used for missiles and military drones.
Yi-Lan Chen pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate the U.S. embargo against Iran and attempting exports to that country. Each charge carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence, but the 40-year-old Chen likely will receive far less, in part because he is cooperating with U.S. investigators.
Chen was arrested in February in Guam and flown to Miami to face the charges.
Man on reality TV is also real bank robber
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A crab boat deckhand who appeared on the "Deadliest Catch" reality show has pleaded guilty to three Oregon bank robbery charges and been sentenced to nine years in prison.
The shackled 23-year-old Joshua Tell Warner apologized to tellers who attended the hearing Wednesday in Lane County Circuit Court.
The Register-Guard reports Warner robbed a Eugene bank in October 2007 before he joined the crew of the Wizard and robbed two other banks last year after his stint in Alaska.
Warner's lawyer, John Kolego, says the TV appearance led to his arrest. Viewers who recognized Warner as a suspect in the robberies called police last fall, and a warrant was issued. He was arrested in a traffic stop in East Peoria, Ill.
