Red Ledges course named Best of State

HEBER CITY — Red Ledges, the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course which opened last year, has been named Best Golf Course in Utah by Best of State Awards.

The 18-hole private golf course is a part of a four-season recreational community located just east of Heber. Besides the 18-hole course, Red Ledges will also include a Jim McLean Golf School, a nine-hole Nicklaus Design short course, a Cliff Drysdale Tennis Academy and an equestrian center.

"We are honored to receive this recognition from Utah's premier recognition and awards program," said Todd Cates, Red Ledges vice president and project manager. "Red Ledges continues to receive the highest marks both locally and nationally."

BYU, Utah fall back in MWC golf tourney

TUCSON, Ariz. — The BYU and Utah golf teams dropped a notch and Colorado State increased its lead after two days of the Mountain West Conference golf tournament at OMNI Tucson National Golf Club.

The Rams shot a 274 total Friday and stand at 11-under 557 going into today's final round. UNLV is second at 561, followed by San Diego State at 562.

The Cougars are fourth at 2-under 566, and there's a huge gap to fifth-place TCU at 591. Utah, which was eighth after the first round, now stands ninth at 609.

BYU's Robbie Fillmore and Brady Johnson are tied for fourth place in the individual race at 140. Derek Adams is Utah's top player at 149.

In the chase for low medalist honors, Colorado State's Ryan Peterson shot a 65 and has a one-stroke lead over San Diego State's Tom Berry at 135. Fillmore and Johnson trail Peterson by six shots.

Hamlin races to another Nationwide win

DARLINGTON, S.C. — Denny Hamlin raced to his third straight Nationwide victory at Darlington Raceway, pulling away from teammate Kyle Busch with five laps left.

Hamlin started from the pole and led much of the race Friday night.

Still, it was a side-by-side drag race with Busch on the last restart. Busch looked as if he had the stuff to prevail, moving about half a car length in front. But Hamlin's Toyota quickly regained the lead and moved out to about a half-second edge.

Busch was second. Jamie McMurray, the pole winner earlier Friday for the Sprint Cup Southern 500, finished third.
