SALT LAKE CITY — A first-time All-Star this season, Jazz point Deron Williams on Thursday was named to the All-NBA Second Team for the second time in his five-season career.
First-team honors went to Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami's Dwyane Wade at the guard spots, NBA MVP LeBron James of Cleveland and Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant as the forwards, and NBA Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard of Orlando at center.
Bryant was named a first-teamer for the fifth consecutive season, James and Howard for the third year in a row, Wade for a second straight and Durant for his first time.
Both James and Howard were unanimous picks in media balloting, receiving the maximum-possible 610 points and first-team nods from all 122 voters.
Joining Williams on the second team are Phoenix point guard Steve Nash, forwards Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas and Carmelo Anthony of Denver, and Phoenix's Amar'e Stoudemire at center.
The All-NBA Third Team: University of Utah product Andrew Bogut of Milwaukee at center with 149 points (90 fewer than Stoudemire), San Antonio's Tim Duncan and Pau Gasol of the Lakers as the forwards and Atlanta's Joe Johnson and Portland's Brandon Roy as the guards.
Nash edged Williams in guard voting 366-to-342, with Bryant collecting 604 points and Wade 520 (no differentiation is made on the ballot between point guards and shooting guards).
Williams received 14 first-team votes — 10 fewer than Nash, 67 fewer than Wade and 105 fewer than Bryant — after a season in which he averaged 18.7 points, 10.5 assists (third in NBA) and 4.0 rebounds (a career-high) while also shooting .469 from the floor and posting 44 double-doubles (seventh-most in the league).
Williams, who received the 14th-most number of points in voting by NBA head coaches for All-Defensive Team honors that were released Wednesday, also was an All-NBA Second Team selection in 2008. He didn't make any of the three teams in 2009.
Jazz power forward Carlos Boozer — a third-team pick in 2008 — wound up with 33 points, ninth among forwards overall, with Toronto's Chris Bosh (80) and New York's David Lee (43) both also ahead of him on the lengthy list of those also receiving votes.
