It's the day before Jennifer Nettles is scheduled to get on the tour bus.
And like most people, she has put everything off until the last minute.
Nettles is scrambling around her hometown of Atlanta, trying to take care of a list of things to do before she sets off on another tour that will keep her on the road the rest of the summer.
That list includes a trip to the dentist.
"It's those last-minute things you put off," she told the Deseret News on her cell phone while driving to her dentist appointment. "It's time for a checkup."
While it's yet to be seen whether the latest bit of hurrying around may later serve as inspiration for another Sugarland hit, there doesn't seem to be anything slowing down the duo of Nettles and Kristian Bush.
Sugarland is currently on the appropriately named The Incredible Machine Tour. Since officially becoming a duo in 2005, Nettles and Bush have been a nonstop force in country music, releasing multiplatinum albums, racking up a half-dozen No. 1 hits and collecting numerous awards, including two Grammys, a few CMT trophies, a couple from the Country Music Association and the American Music Awards.
The latest tour is the duo's most adventurous stage production yet.
"It's going to be exciting. It's a whole new set design, whole new lighting," said Nettles. "There's a lot of energy and effort into making it better and better. There will be a lot of surprises."
Nettles promises the set list will include the favorites fans want to hear, a deep cut or two for longtime fans and songs off their new CD, "The Incredible Machine," scheduled to be released this fall.
"It's growth for us artistically," she said. "Our fans have come to not only expect but demand that we continue to grow as artists and writers and performers. I get to play with different styles and influences all under the umbrella of what Kristian and I write. It's a combination of bungee jumping and eating chocolate cake all at the same time. It's terrifying and gratifying."
Sugarland's combination of country, pop and rock has resulted in the catchy upbeat songs like "It Happens," "Settlin' " and "All I Want to Do," while Nettles' heartfelt vocals have carried songs like "Stay" and "Keep You."
