Springville may create economic development council

SPRINGVILLE — City leaders are considering creating an economic development council in an effort to get more businesses to relocate to Springville.

Mayor Wilford W. Clyde said the city has plenty of talent to go on the panel, including people with connections and ability to work with potential businesses.

"We need to be out there telling (potential businesses) we have what they want," Councilman Neil Strong said Tuesday.

"There's more to it than that," said community relations director John Gleed. "We need to know the players and how … they work together."

Clyde said city leaders should first decide who to name to the economic development council, and then determine its message, target the businesses they want to come to Springville and develop a strategy, which could include negotiating building and land-use fees.

"We need to find a way of doing this quickly," Councilman Ben Jolley said.
