SALT LAKE CITY — Noted author and historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich will speak May 21 at the Church History Museum, and her lecture "In the Garrets and Rat-Holes of Old Houses — How Objects Make History" is the latest offering of the museum's ongoing series.
Ulrich is the 300th Anniversary Professor at Harvard University and the immediate past president of the American Historical Association. Known for her books on early New England, she received the Pulitzer Prize in history for "A Midwife's Tale: The Life of Martha Ballard Based on Her Diary, 1785-1812."
The Sugar City, Idaho, native received her undergraduate degree at the University of Utah and credits her Western upbringing for helping instill a fascination for the domination of New England's history in national culture.
Her May 21 lecture will be given at 6:30 and 8 p.m. at the museum, 45 N. West Temple. The lectures are free but require a ticket.
