PLEASANT GROVE — A small fight over a yard sale escalated when police say a landlord hit his tenant in the face and then barricaded himself in the home.
SWAT was dispatched to the residence near 100 North and Main Street in Pleasant Grove where police had been talking with the landlord for about an hour trying to get him to come outside Monday evening.
The police chief convinced the man to come out of the home just as SWAT members were getting into position, said Pleasant Grove Police Sgt. Carl Nielson.
"He didn't want to talk to police," Nielson said. "He was afraid we were going to arrest him."
The incident began around 8 p.m. when a female tenant at the house was in the process of moving out and argued with the landlord about coming back to have a yard sale, Nielson said.
"(The landlord) didn't approve of her doing that and at one point hit her in the face," he said.
Pleasant Grove and Lindon police officers responded and arrested 62-year-old Jay Peterson. He was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of assault.
