The Utah Symphony has announced pianist Stephen Hough, who was slated to appear with the Utah Symphony Friday and Saturday, has had to cancel due to a family emergency.
Replacing him will be Orli Shaham, who will play Camille Saint-Sa?s' popular Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, op. 22, instead of the composer's Piano Concerto No. 5 that was originally scheduled. The rest of the program, under the baton of guest conductor Claus Peter Flor, will remain the same (Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin" and César Franck's Symphony in D minor).
Shaham maintains a busy concert schedule. In the United States she has soloed with orchestras in Boston, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Chicago, Baltimore and St. Louis among others. In Europe, she's appeared with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Filarmonica della Scala, the Stockholm Philharmonic and the Orchestre National de Lyon. Shaham has also performed with the Israel Philharmonic, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Malaysian Philharmonic (under Flor).
In addition to her concert appearances, Shaham also plays recitals and chamber music in the United States and Europe. Among summer festivals, she's played at Ravinia, Verbier, Mostly Mozart, Aspen, Caramoor and Spoleto.
She is the younger sister of violinist Gil Shaham, with whom she occasionally performs, and the wife of David Robertson, music director of the St. Louis Symphony.
Tickets for the Utah Symphony concerts are still available, either by calling ArtTix at 801-355-2787 or 888-451-2787, or online at utahsymphony.org.
