Riverton High opened for school Friday following bomb threat

RIVERTON — Riverton High was shut down for several hours following a bomb threat Thursday.

School officials received information just after school was let out that there was a possible bomb at the high school at 12476 W. Silverwolf Way (2700 West) and evacuated about a dozen students and staff. Unified police officers, fire crews, Utah Highway Patrol troopers and seven police dogs spent most of Thursday night working to determine whether a bomb was on campus. They finally cleared the building around 10 p.m., said Melinda Colton, spokeswoman for Jordan School District.

A 15-year-old boy suspected of making the threat was taken into police custody but Colton said they weren't announcing whether he was a student or not.

School will be open Friday as usual and no events were cancelled because of the bomb threat.
