LAYTON — An 18-year-old man remained hospitalized Friday with injuries he suffered Thursday when he was hit by a motorist who police say ran a red light.

Alexis Haro was riding his bike in a crosswalk at 500 N. Main about 9 a.m. when the accident occurred, said Layton Police Lt. Garret Atkin. He said the driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old woman, was traveling south on Main Street at the time of the crash.

The light turned red, and a semitrailer pulled into the intersection in the direction of traffic running east to west, but stopped when the driver realized the woman was running the light, Atkin said. The woman then crossed in front of the semitrailer, striking the man on his bicycle.

The victim initially went by ambulance to Davis Hospital and then by helicopter to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. He suffered internal injuries, Atkin said. Hospital officials reported Friday that he was in stable condition.
