Osmond children gathering in Idaho

MALAD, Idaho — All of Olive Osmond's nine children will be in Idaho this weekend to dedicate the cabin where their mother was born.

Virl, Tom, Alan, Merrill, Wayne, Jay, Donnie, Marie and Jimmy Osmond will attend the two-day event, May 2 and 3, at the birthplace of Olive Davis. The public is invited.

The family will present an LDS fireside on Sunday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in Malad. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. at the Malad LDS Stake Center at 1250 N. 1100 West. The program will emphasize family, although it will not be a concert. Admission is free, but tickets are required because of limited seating. Call Lance Tripp at 208-541-8746 for tickets. Overflow seating (tickets not required) will be available at the 3rd Ward Building (400 N. 200 West).

The cabin dedication ceremony will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 3, at the cabin site on the main road into Samaria, six miles southwest of Malad. After the dedication, a light lunch will be served for a $5 donation, followed by entertainment from local student groups and members of the Osmond family.

Those who attend either event will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with the Osmonds. Books about the Osmonds by Alan and Virl Osmond and CDs by the Osmonds will be available for sale, with all proceeds going to the cabin maintenance fund and the Samaria Pavilion fund.

3 Mormons drafted by NFL teams

Three Mormons heard their names called during the NFL Draft — with one having to wait until the final pick.

Tony Moeaki, a Mormon from Wheaton, Ill., who played tight end at Iowa, was taken in the third round by the Kansas City Chiefs, the 93rd overall pick. Another tight end, BYU's Dennis Pitta, was selected by Baltimore in the fourth round with pick No. 114.

The final pick of the draft, known traditionally as "Mr. Irrelevant," was Weber State's Tim Toone, a wide receiver from Peoria, Ariz. Toone was the 255th selection in the seven-round format.

Both Pitta (Dominican Republic) and Toone (West Africa) are returned missionaries.

Toone is the second Weber State RM to earn the "Mr. Irrelevant" title. Cam Quayle was the 241st pick of the draft by the Ravens in 1998.
