SALT LAKE CITY — A fight over a woman sent two homeless men to the hospital Tuesday night when they used a knife and can of beans to attack each other.
A Salt Lake City police officer walking near Pioneer Park at 300 West and 400 South about 7:30 p.m. witnessed the attack, thinking one of the men was punching the other. It turned out a 40-year-old man stabbed the other in the neck and chest with a 5-inch knife, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Melody Gray.
The 33-year-old stabbing victim retaliated by a throwing a can of beans in the other man's face, knocking him to the ground.
The officer intervened, and the stabbing victim managed to walk across the street before he was apprehended. Both were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
