SALT LAKE CITY — One of the oldest businesses on Main Street will open April 24 under new ownership, with little change in the outward appearance of the store.

The big change at McKay Diamonds, 157 S. Main, will be the absence of Robert McKay, who retired Friday from the business he started 61 years ago.

McKay told the Deseret News that he sold the business, including inventory and name, to Joe Andrade on Monday morning. Andrade, who has been in the jewelry business for three decades, has a shop in Taylorsville and had been looking to expand downtown, McKay said.

McKay, who will soon turn 90, recently decided to retire so he can spend more time with his wife and business partner, France Ellen McKay.
