PROVO — Religious and government leaders will pray and read scriptures at a Utah Valley National Day of Prayer service May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Provo Tabernacle, 100 South and University Avenue, Provo.
Keynote speaker will be Lincoln Steed, editor of Liberty magazine, a 200,000 circulation journal published by the Seventh-day Adventist Church that promotes religious liberty.
A patriotic segment will include Troop #51 from the Provo United Church of Christ, pledge by Provo Mayor John Curtis, and veterans' tribute by Scott Daniel, member of the Utah Valley Ministerial Association and military veteran. Religious groups represented at the event will include the Hari Krishna faith, Native American tradition, the Center Point Church and the LDS Church.
The service will also include musical performances by the Mapleton Chorale and soloist Serena Kanig Benish, professor at Utah Valley University.
The Utah Valley Ministerial Association and Utah Valley University Interfaith Student Association is sponsoring this year's event. A voluntary donation will be taken for The Food & Care Coalition.
