SOFTBALL: The Red Storm defeated Dominican University today in a PacWest Conference doubleheader 21-0 and 13-0 in San Rafeal, Calif.
The Red Storm (30-11, 19-5 PWC) pounded out 26 hits and scored 34 runs in the two games and got two pitching gems from Brittnie Whipple and Lauren Folta.
Brittnie Whipple pitched a run-rule shortened five inning no-hitter in the second game, her second no-hitter of the year, while striking out eight Penguin hitters. Lauren Folta allowed on three hits while striking out seven in her run-rule shortened game.
Leading the Red Storm offense was Johnna Brown's 12 RBI on the day. Brown clubbed three hits in the first game and two in the second and finished 5-8 with a home run and a triple.
Other stellar performances for the Red Storm were Shantae Hunter's and Cassie Merrill's five hits and Anna Cue's four hits.
Dixie State will finish the four game series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. MT tomorrow. After a day off on Friday the Red Storm will travel to the Academy of Art in the final PacWest series of the year.
