LAYTON — A 12-year veteran of the Davis School District is on leave after being arrested for investigation of stealing school property then trying to sell it.
Amy Elizabeth Carroll, a second-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary, was arrested Sunday after police say she sold school supplies at a swap meet.
According to police, Carroll, 36, was selling several items marked as property of Lincoln Elementary.
Possible thefts were reported last month but police did not have enough evidence until a tip led them to Carroll at the Riverdale swap meet Sunday, said Layton police Lt. Garret Atkin.
She was reportedly selling copy room supplies, books and educational games, Atkin said.
School District spokesman Chris Williams said Carroll is on paid administrative leave.
Carroll has worked at Lincoln Elementary since 2006 and in the Davis School District since 1998, he said.
Although she was booked on a charge based on a theft of $300 or less, police are still investigating the extent of the theft, Atkin said.
Williams said the school district would use the period of administrative leave to gain more information before taking further action.
"Any time an educator is accused of misusing public materials or funds, it causes us great concern," he said.
Carroll was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of theft and receiving stolen goods, according to a jail official. She was released Sunday.
