Have you heard about Sporcle.com?
It's a Web site featuring a bunch of trivia games that are good for your brain.
You can take timed quizzes on all kinds of subjects: geography, history, science, literature, whatever.
Quizzes have names like "3 Letter Body Parts," "Television Nerds," "Commonest English Words," "Corporate Logos," "Countries of Asia" and "Q on the Menu," which gives you hints so you can supply the name of a food with the letter Q in it.
Example: "The meat of a young pigeon."
OK.
I would like to point out here that I fully knew the answer to this, which is "squab."
I know! I'm a genius! And seriously, I'm not sure HOW I knew this, because it's not like I tell my kids to go the store and buy some "squab" so I can cook up a bunch of "squab" for dinner because who doesn't crave some delicious "squab" now and then?
You know how it is.
One minute, you're craving "squab." And the next minute, you're roaming the aisles of 7-Eleven at midnight looking for the "squab" shelf.
Speaking of food names with the letter Q, I also knew that a "small, tightly-rolled tortilla with meat or vegetable filling, crisp-fried" was a "tacquito."
Admittedly, this is not as impressive as knowing the word "squab."
But still.
I'm always happy to give a shout out to one of my favorite foods, i.e. the beef tacquito from El Azteca in Provo.
Anyway.
My son introduced me to Sporcle.com when he was home for spring break, and I've been playing games like crazy.
I'm all about exercising my brain, because who wants a flabby one of THOSE?
Truly, it gives me huge satisfaction to stand in front of a mirror every morning and admire how very toned and seriously BUFF my brain is looking these days.
High five for me!
Or at least it used to give me satisfaction.
But now? I'm having my doubts about how good all this Sporcle stuff is for a person's head. Take what happened the other day.
