TRACK AND FIELD: The Wildcats posted some impressive performances this weekend at the MT. SAC Relays in Walnut, California and on Saturday at the Mark Faldmo Invitational in Logan, Utah.
On the women's side, freshman Sarah Callister (Ogden, Utah) ran the third fastest 10,000 meter time in Weber State women's outdoor track and field history on Thursday (April 15) at the MT. SAC Relays. Running in the Women's Invitational run, Callister posted a time of 34:37.33 finishing seventh in a field of nationally ranked collegians and amateurs. That is the best time posted in the Big Sky Conference this season.
On Friday (April 16), Laken Skidmore (So.-Terreton, Idaho) and Loren Storey (So.-Kaysville, Utah) ran in the women's open 1,500 meter race at MT. SAC. and both ran Big Sky Conference qualifying times.
Skidmore came in at 4:36.99 and Storey ran a personal best of 4:37.94.
Those are the 4th and 5th best times in the Big Sky this season.
Also on Friday, Ally Dean (Sr.-South Ogden, Utah) ran a season best of 1:00.26 in the women's open 400 Meter Hurdles. She had the best collegiate time and was fourth overall among 32 runners in four sections. Michaela North (Sr.-Kennewick, Washington) ran a season and personal best of 13.98 in the 100 Meter Hurdles. That is the fourth best time in WSU school history and the best time in the Big Sky Conference this season.
At the Mark Faldmo Invitational on Saturday (April 17), Jana Colvin (Fr.-Harrisville, Utah) ran a personal best of 1:04.56 in the 400 Meter Hurdles to qualify for the Big Sky Conference meet, and Kristin Billings (So.-Kaysville, Utah) ran a personal and season best of 24.87 in the 200 Meters.
"This was just a tremendous weekend for us," said WSU women's coach Jim Blaisdell. "We had 15 season bests and four new Big Sky Conference qualifying marks. Sarah's performance in the 10,000 meters was almost off the charts considering it was the first time she's ever run that race. The only two times better on our top ten list are Olympian Lindsey Anderson and all-American Morgan Haws. We now have 19 athletes qualified in 34 events. If we can get two or three more over the next two weeks we will be in great shape for the Conference meet." Coach Dan Walker's men had some standout performances as well, posting 27 seasonal best performances.
