OGDEN — The city of Ogden will appeal a judge's ruling that Police Chief Jon Greiner must resign or the city will be forced to forfeit about $215,000 in federal grants.
John Patterson, the city's chief administrative officer, says he's confident Administrative Law Judge Lana Parke's decision last month against Greiner will be overturned.
Parke ruled that Greiner violated the federal Hatch Act of 1939 during his successful 2006 state Senate campaign by signing off on federal grants that were in place during his run for office.
Greiner, a Republican, has withdrawn as a candidate for re-election in response to the ruling.
The Hatch Act prohibits local and state employees in federally aided programs from seeking public office in a partisan election.
