The Cardall family had two gifted sons: Paul had a congenital heart problem and Brian had a mental illness. As Paul's condition reached a crisis, the community rallied to help get him a healthy heart. When Brian's illness reached a crisis, his symptoms of mental illness were silenced by violently stopping his healthy heart.
The Cardall family deserves our caring and compassion for both of their sons. And we, as a community, have a lot to learn about mental illness.
