PLEASANT GROVE (AP) — A Utah County city desperate for new restaurants is offering cash bonuses for real estate brokers that can bring them to town.

Pleasant Grove officials Tuesday agreed to pony up $10,000 for whoever can woo two new restaurants.

Richard Bradford, the city's economic development director, says he's typically opposed to financial incentives for businesses but says the city is desperate for eateries. Bradford says the cash incentives are meant to help Pleasant Grove stand out among competing cities.

To qualify for the bonus, each restaurant would have to take in at least $2 million in its first year.

If the tactic works, Mayor Bruce Call says the city may use it to bring other businesses to town.
