Elder D. Todd Christofferson to speak at Y. commencement

PROVO — Elder D. Todd Christofferson, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be the speaker at BYU's April commencement. The ceremony on Thursday, April 22, will begin at 4 p.m. in the Marriott Center, with a live broadcast on KBYU-TV (Channel 11) and KBYU-FM (89.1).

Elder Christofferson was called to the Quorum of the Twelve on April 5, 2008, prior to which time he served in the Presidency of the Seventy.

Before being called as a general authority, Elder Christofferson was associate general counsel of NationsBank Corp., now Bank of America, in Charlotte, N.C., according to LDS.org.

A native of Pleasant Grove, Elder Christofferson earned his bachelor's degree from BYU and his law degree from Duke University.

Thursday afternoon, graduates should assemble at the Abraham Smoot Building parking lot at 3 p.m. to begin the processional by 3:20 p.m., weather permitting.

The Marriott Center doors will open at 2 p.m., and guests should be in their seats by 3:15 p.m. No tickets are needed.

Parking is not permitted from midnight until 4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 22, in Lot 1A, north of the Abraham Smoot Building, and a small portion of the timed parking in Lot 2A, north of the Museum of Art. Vehicles parked there will be towed.

Faculty members who want to march in the processional should go to either the east or west side of the Abraham Smoot Building by 3 p.m.

The BYU Air Force ROTC will have a commissioning ceremony for 15 cadets Thursday, April 22, at 11 a.m. in the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center.

Retired Maj. Gen. James G. Andrus will be the keynote speaker.

The Army ROTC will commission 12 cadets Friday, April 23, at 11 a.m. in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center.

Kenneth L. Alford, associate professor of church history and doctrine and a retired colonel in the U.S. Army, will be the speaker.

On Friday, April 23, graduates and their parents are invited to meet President Cecil O. Samuelson and his wife, Sharon, at the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center Assembly Hall from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
