SALT LAKE CITY — Police have arrested a woman who they believe to officers about evidence and the whereabouts of suspects involved in the shooting death of Stephanie Williams.
Gabriela G. Flores, 35, has been booked into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of obstruction of justice, which is a second-degree felony if Flores is charged.
Police also believe another man is involved in the homicide. Alvaro "Acuaro" Arriaga, 21, had been interviewed and released during the early stages of the investigation. Arriaga was detained on Tuesday but not arrested. He has now been named a suspect in the case.
"We released him based on the fact that we didn't have enough probable cause to charge him at the time," said Salt Lake police detective Pat Wilkinson. "Based on the information that the investigators have obtained during the investigation, now he is listed as a suspect."
Arriaga's brothers are both in jail — one in connection with Williams' death, the other in connection with the slaying of Benacio Hernandez-Herrera, 33, in West Jordan.
Police believe that Delfino Arriaga Luna shot Williams in her Fairpark area home at 766 W. 300 North. Williams, 19, was found by her mother and a ".40-caliber shell casing was found next to the body," according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
Williams may first have been held hostage by her alleged shooters because she owed them money, police said.
Hernandez-Herrera's body was found in a field near 6300 West and 7400 South about 3 p.m. Sunday. Police believe Benjamin Arriaga Luna shot the man multiple times.
"Benjamin stated that a fight took place between himself and (Hernandez-Herrera). Benjamin stated that he pulled the gun out of his waistband and shot (Hernandez-Herrera) numerous times," according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
Delfino Luna, 31, was booked Tuesday into jail for investigation of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery. Benjamin Luna, 37, was booked into jail the following day for investigation of murder.
Wilkinson said police believe Alvaro Arriaga is driving a 1997 white Ford Crown Victoria with Utah license plate B65 3EK. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 801-799-3000. Callers should reference case 10-58764 and may remain anonymous.
