CLEARFIELD — Davis County is one step closer to having a new senior center in Clearfield.

And it looks like the county is going to get it for about $300,000 less than officials had expected.

County commissioners received 17 bids Tuesday from contractors to build the 14,831-square-foot building, which will take the place of the aging Heritage Senior Activity Center, located in Clearfield's former city hall.

The lowest bid was disqualified because it lacked some required information, said Barry Burton, Davis County's planning director. But the four remaining lowest bids are between $2.07 million and $2.12 million.

"That's what we like to see," Burton said, adding the county's estimate for the building's construction was $2.5 million.

The new center will be built adjacent to the county's new health department building near Center and State streets.

"I'm just excited about this project for the seniors in the northern part of the county," said Davis County Health Department director Lewis Garrett. "The current facility is not very adequate."

Burton said he expects county commissioners to award the construction contract on April 13.
